City to consider medical pot ban

Share

City Council members are expected Monday to consider permanently banning medical marijuana dispensaries from ever opening in La Cañada Flintridge.

Ubiquitous throughout parts of Los Angeles and other urban areas, pot clinics already are prohibited in La Cañada under a temporary moratorium enacted by council members in 2009.

Two ordinances expected to come up at Monday’s City Council meeting would change municipal code to declare medical marijuana facilities a nuisance and rule out cultivation and sale of marijuana as a land-use option under the city zoning laws, said Community Development Director Robert Stanley.

Stanley said no pot clinic has ever petitioned the city to do business in La Cañada Flintridge, calling the proposed ordinances “a preemptive measure.”

Members of the city’s Planning Commission voted last week recommend the zoning-code change.
