Council extends field-use agreement

La Cañada Flintridge City Council members and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will extend their joint-use agreement for the church’s sports field for another five years.

Citing the importance of public access to the field for youth baseball and soccer practices, City Hall will continue to share the costs of field maintenance with the church. The city will spend roughly $22,000 per year, with about $14,000 for upkeep and $8,000 for irrigation.

Council members voted 4-0 on Tuesday to extend the agreement, with Councilman Greg Brown, a church member who helped negotiate the initial 2002 agreement, abstaining.
