Crime Blotter, Feb. 23: Four guitars stolen from home

Area 1

3100 block of Abella Street: A Suzuki GSX600R motorcycle was stolen sometime between 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 20 and 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

4600 block of Leir Drive: A mountain bike valued at $4,000 was stolen from a garage sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20. The victim said the garage was locked, but may have been left open for a short period of the day by his wife. There was no sign of forced entry to the garage.

2500 block of Manhattan Avenue: A Jeep Wrangler was dented and scratched on its hood by a rock, causing $500 of damage, at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17. The car’s owner saw several rocks thrown over his back fence, one of which hit his car, but could not see over the fence. When the victim walked around the fence, he saw around five kids playing outside the neighboring apartment complex. When he asked the kids if they had been throwing rocks, they ran away.

4800 block of La Crescenta Avenue: Jewelry and wristwatches were stolen from a home sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16. The homeowner’s 13-year-old son returned home from school to find the front door unlocked and the master bedroom ransacked. The point of entry to the home appeared to be a rear glass sliding door.

Area 2

5300 block of Ivafern Lane: Three men attempted to burglarize a residence at 11:12 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 17 while the owner was home. One of the suspects smashed a back sliding glass door and entered the house. He saw the owner and fled with the other two suspects who had been outside. The three men, described as being in their 30s, got into a red sedan and drove off. Nothing was stolen, and the value of the smashed sliding door was given as $500.

400 block of Paulette Place: A 12-year-old’s mountain bike, valued at $350, was stolen from an open garage sometime between 3:45 and 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16. The victim had arrived home with friends after skateboarding and left the open garage briefly while going inside. When he went back to the garage to get his skateboard, the victim saw his bike was missing. Nothing else was taken.

Area 3

600 block of Pomander Place: Four guitars, two laptop computers and an iPad were stolen from a home at 1:08 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21. The burglary was in progress when the homeowner’s domestic workers arrived at the house and found the front door open. Two men, both wearing hooded sweat shirts, sprinted out of the house entered a green SUV and drove off. One bedroom had been ransacked and several other guitars were moved from their locations but left in the house or the backyard when the burglars were interrupted. The total value of the stolen items was reported as $5940.

4400 block of Cornishon Avenue: Someone cut the wires to the sprinkler system at the La Cañada Unified School District headquarters sometime between 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 13 and 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14. The damage to the system was estimated at $1,000.

3800 block of Hampstead Road: A Honda lawn mower valued at $800 was stolen from the driveway of a home at 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16. The victim was performing gardening services at the home, left the mower in the driveway while working elsewhere, and upon returning, found it gone. Footage from security cameras revealed a 20-25-year-old man in a green cap, jacket and blue jeans running down the driveway, grabbing the mower, and running away while pushing the mower.

400 block of Foothill Boulevard: A woman’s pocketbook was stolen out of her purse while she was shopping at Trader Joe’s sometime between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16. The wallet contained cash, debit and credit cards, and a Social Security card. The woman did not notice her pocketbook was missing until she was at the check-out counter.
