Montrose Search and Rescue responds to hikers’ slip at Switzer Falls

Two men who slipped and fell into the water below Switzer Falls at around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday escaped relatively unscathed, officials said.

Mike Leum, of the Montrose Search and Rescue, said his team responded to what could have been a far more serious incident.

“It initially came out as two males over the falls, which obviously was potentially a very traumatic mission,” he said. “But once we got on scene...it was more of a slip and a slide down a slope into the river.”

Leum said that the men, who were not identified, didn’t suffer any significant injuries and were able to hike out with the help of the rescue crew.

Montrose Search and Rescue members worked with Forest Service officials and rescue crews from L.A. County Fire Stations 19 and 82 to locate the two men, according to Leum.

L.A. County Fire also dispatched a helicopter that was in the air in case a medical evacuation was needed.
