La Cañada High School has its new principal.

La Cañada Unified School District officials Thursday named Ian McFeat, who previously served as vice principal at Kentlake High School outside Seattle, to the post.

According to a statement released by the district, McFeat was instrumental in establishing a partnership between Kentlake High School and the University of Washington which brought college courses to the high school campus. Kentlake also implemented an innovative testing program focused on amplifying the rigor of course offerings during McFeat’s tenure.

“McFeat’s outstanding work and extensive experience as an assistant principal has readied him for the principal position at LCHS,” district officials said in a statement.

McFeat replaces Jackie Luzak, who announced last month that she had accepted the principal position at a middle school in San Diego County.

Rounding out the administration at La Cañada High School will be Jarrett Gold, who will continue as assistant principal of discipline, activities and athletics, and Jim Cartnal, a longtime teacher who will now serve as assistant principal of curriculum and instruction.

“This administration team demonstrates the perfect blend of all the professional and personal qualities we wanted for site leadership at LCHS,” Supt. Wendy Sinnette said in a statement. “My vision in creating this team is to bring long-term stability to the site’s administration.”
