Police and fire departments compete to collect blood

Deputies and residents donated blood Wednesday in a regional “Battle of the Badges” competition.
A Red Cross mobile station parked outside of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station collected blood from more than 20 people, said Deputy Jorge Valdivia.
The station was competing with other police and fire stations in Southern California. “A lot of the public has come in and helped us build those numbers up,” Valdivia said. “Everyone counts.”
