The public is invited to hear the results of recent security audit of La Cañada’s public schools during a school board workshop on March 19, according to LCUSD Supt. Wendy Sinnette.

An audit of district campuses was performed on Jan. 29 and 30 by Tim Coffey, an Orange County-based crime prevention/security expert recommended by the district’s insurance provider.

La Cañada and many other school districts nationwide are reviewing their security procedures and systems following the Dec. 14 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that claimed the lives of 20 students and six adult staff members.

Also, the LCUSD governing board approved the school safety plans on first reading Tuesday. The plan contains 11 key components including an assessment of any school-related crimes, disaster preparedness, its sexual harassment policy, and procedures for reporting hate crimes.
