Sheriff’s captain to depart

After leading the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station for the past five years, Capt. David Silversparre is set to leave his role and transfer to a communications position within the department.

“I’ve been honored to live my dream in an area in which I reside and will remain,” said Silversparre. “While I did not ask to leave, it appears other people have plans for my future.”

Silversparre has worked for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for more than 30 years. The La Crescenta resident was named captain in April 2008. After he leaves the station, he will take on the role as captain of the radio room at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Communications and Fleet Management Bureau in Los Angeles. The room manages radio and digital communications.

Officials have not named a replacement, but are expected to name a new captain by the end of the week. The Crescenta Valley station covers La Cañada Flintridge, Montrose, La Crescenta and other communities near the Angeles National Forest.

Sgt. Burton Brink, a community relations coordinator for the Crescenta Valley station, said Silversparre announced his departure a couple of weeks ago.

Silversparre has led the station through a period of natural disasters, fires and school tragedies. He was an Explorer with the former Montrose Sheriff’s Station when the Crescenta Valley Station opened in 1973.

He lauded the work of his colleagues at the station.

“I am honored by their hard work and dedication to keep the community safe,” he said.
