La Cañada Crime: Dog poisoned with raw meat and strychnine pills

Sept. 10

Possession of an unregistered, concealed, loaded firearm in vehicle: Angeles Crest Highway at second turnout, 2:51 a.m. A 20-year-old man from Van Nuys was arrested after authorities approached him and his girlfriend in a car parked in the turnout. The man claimed he found the weapon near a trash can in the area, according to a sheriff’s report.

Sept. 8

Vehicle burglary: 600 block of Knight Way, before 11 a.m. Cash was stolen from two unlocked vehicles that were parked in the resident’s driveway.

Sept. 7

Petty theft: 1800 block of Foothill Boulevard, 11:30 a.m. Two UPS boxes were stolen from inside a resident’s gate. Surveillance footage showed a suspect who arrived in a Toyota Prius taking the boxes.

Sept. 3

Vehicle burglaries in the 1900 block of Foothill Boulevard. The first incident took place between 1:15 and 2:15 p.m. when a purse containing iPhone, driver’s license, wallet and other items was stolen from a car. The second incident occurred between 1 and 2 p.m. when a purse was stolen from another car.

Aug. 29

Public intoxication, hitchhiking: 800 block of Flintridge Avenue, 8:15 p.m. A 54-year-old Glendale man who told deputies he had been drinking vodka was trying to catch a ride to Ralphs. He was found walking in the middle of the road.

Aug. 25-26

Residential burglary: 4700 block of Alta Canyada Road, before 8 a.m. on Aug. 26. A laptop, iPad, keypad and canvas bag were stolen from a house. There were no signs of forced entry.

Aug. 25

Willful poisoning of an animal: 4100 block of Hampstead Road, 7:30 a.m. Owner found pet dog eating a raw meatball with strychnine pills inside. The dog was taken to a veterinarian when he started convulsing. Additional meatballs were found in the home’s yard.

Sept. 1

Vehicle burglary: 2900 block of Henrietta Avenue, between 4:38 and 4:46 a.m. Nursing equipment, including blood sugar meters and a first-aid kit, was stolen from a car. Surveillance footage shows two male suspects placing the property in another vehicle.

Aug. 31

Vehicle burglary: 2600 block of Foothill Boulevard, between 1 and 3:45 p.m. A purse containing a wallet, money and a driver’s license was stolen from a car.

Aug. 29

Residential burglary: 2600 block of Seapine Lane, between 7 and 8 p.m. Four golf bags stolen from garage.

Aug. 20-27

Forgery: 2200 block of Maurice Avenue, before 3 p.m. on Aug. 27. Checks stolen from mailbox, washed and rewritten.
