Olberz leaves Sport Chalet board

Erik Olberz, son of Sport Chalet founders Norbert and Irene Olberz, has stepped down from his 20-year seat on the La Cañada-based sporting good chain’s board of directors, it was announced this week.

“It’s been a great pleasure serving on Sport Chalet’s Board,” Olberz said in a news release. “My departure allows the Board to make room for a new director whose experience is more closely aligned with the company’s strategic growth initiatives.” He added that he and his family believe that Sport Chalet’s chief executive, Craig Levra, “and his team have made great strides in positioning the company for future growth and success.”

Miki R. Berardelli, chief marketing officer for the women’s clothing and accessories firm Tory Burch, has been elected to succeed Olberz on the board. She has 20 years’ experience in marketing and e-commerce. Prior to joining Tory Burch in 2009, Berardelli was the senior vice president of marketing for Ralph Lauren.

In late September Sport Chalet announced it had hired Cappello Capital Corp. to explore options including strategic partners, investors and joint ventures.
