La Cañada City Council to discuss Devil’s Gate Dam project on Monday

Share

The La Cañada Flintridge City Council will hold a discussion on the county’s Devil’s Gate Dam sediment removal project on Monday before the regular meeting.

Officials released a draft environmental impact report last month on removing mud and debris from the basin above the dam that began to build up after the 2009 Station fire.

The special meeting begins at 6 p.m., prior to the regular City Council meeting at 7 p.m. on Dec. 2.

Residents can submit comments about the draft report to the Los Angeles County Flood Control District until Jan. 6. Comments can be sent via email at reservoircleanouts@dpw.lacounty.gov, by fax at (626) 979¿5436, or by mail to County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works Water Resources Division, Attn: Reservoir Cleanouts Program P.O. Box 1460 Alhambra, CA 91802¿1460

Also on Monday’s agenda is a request to change the tree species on Alta Canyada Road between Foothill and Verdugo boulevards from Chinese elm to crape myrtle.

Crape myrtle trees grow shorter than Chinese elm trees and would pose less of a risk of interfering with power lines on the street, according to a staff report.

The council is also expected to vote on a sewer system management plan and to approve an ordinance that cuts off liquor sales from stores at midnight.

City Hall is located at 1327 Foothill Blvd.
