Panel to discuss high school planning for parents of eighth-graders

A panel discussion especially geared for parents of eighth-grade students is planned for 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 in the La Cañada High School auditorium, 4463 O ak Grove Drive.

The event is presented by the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation in conjunction with the high school.

The panelists for “High School and Beyond: Charting the Course” include LCHS Assistant Principal Jim Cartnal and guidance counselors Sally Spangler and Alison Dalbeck, Mark Rasic, an admissions counselor from the University of Southern California, and Jinny Dalbeck, the chair of the educational foundation’s summer school program.

The event’s purpose is to help parents understand the details they need to know before their children enter high school, including what courses they should take, whether they need to enroll in summer school, how athletic programs work and what colleges are looking for, among other topics.

Also on hand will be a 529 Plan expert available from Merrill Edge to talk about saving for post-secondary education. Merrill Edge and Bank of America are sponsoring this event.

“We are pleased to provide these kinds of informative events to our school families” stated Brent Kuszyk, a member of the educational foundation’s board and event organizer.
