Sharing the cost of undergrounding

Share

As I write this on Friday night, a good portion of La Cañada Flintridge still has no electricity.

To avoid future outages, especially when facing large earthquakes and other natural disasters, many have recommended numerous times, and after numerous past incidents, placing power lines under the ground, especially for cities like La Cañada that have a large number of trees and narrow, hillside roads.

The cost of this work can perhaps be shared with the cable companies who are interested in adding/extending fiber-optic lines to the city. Telephone lines can also be placed underground where needed, and existing gas and water lines can be checked and/or additional check/repair points can be added to all underground lines. The city of La Cañada Flintridge needs to follow up and make it happen. At the next significant natural disaster, we will all feel extremely fortunate to have underground power lines.
