Pastore to speak twice at St. Bede

Frank Pastore, Christian radio talk-show host and author of the book “Shattered,” will be the guest speaker at the St. Bede Monthly Book Club meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18 in the parish center. This event is open to St. Bede members as well as to the general community.

Pastore also will speak at the St. Bede School general parent meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31.

Pastore is heard from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays in Los Angeles, on 99.5 KKLA.

He pitched with the Cincinnati Reds for seven years before going to seminary at the Talbot School of Theology in La Mirada. Later, he earned a master’s degree in political philosophy at Claremont Graduate University.

Winter session classes at La Crescenta Presbyterian

On Wednesday, Jan. 18 La Crescenta Presbyterian Church will begin the winter session of its PEAK (Praise and Education for Adults and Kids) program. There are two new adult classes offered and classes for children from age 2 through eighth grade. Nursery care is provided. Classes run from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a home-cooked dinner is offered from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The suggested donation for dinner is $3 for adults and $2 for children.

The first adult class is called “First and Ten: Strategies for Winning the Game of Life.” Every Wednesday night Lee Cook will lead a study of the Ten Commandments. The second class for adults is called “Foundations for Families” and is for couples and singles in their 20s-40s. This class will study the writings of John Ortberg. Admission is free for all classes.

LC United Methodist studies Ephesians

La Cañada United Methodist Church continues its sermons on Ephesians this Sunday. At 10:30 a.m., Pastor Elaine Cho preaches on “Spiritual Maturity: Gentleness” (Eph 4:1-3). Nursery and Sunday school are held for younger children during the worship service. Older elementary students will have lunch and Sunday school after worship.

A winter retreat for seventh- through 12th-grade students takes place this weekend at Bill and Marilyn Peer’s cabin at Lake Arrowhead. Kendra Fredrickson, director of Youth Ministry, leads participants in a study of “Three Simple Rules: A Wesleyan Way of Living.”

The church’s monthly movie night begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday with “Create Your Own Ice Cream Sundae,” followed by a movie at 7 p.m. A minimal donation is requested.
