Meatball’s well-being is important

Share

Meatball the Bear (also known as “210”) had become a danger to himself and the neighborhoods he frequented. He was sustaining himself in our neighborhoods and yards. If allowed to continue his pattern of raiding neighborhood trash cans and back yards in the Crescenta-Cañada Valley something bad was bound to happen.

Meatball had been tranquilized and relocated twice already and returned to our area both times. Earlier this week another bear was hit by a car on Foothill Boulevard. in La Cañada Flintridge. His injuries were to severe to survive and that bear was euthanized.

In the best interest of Meatball the Bear, residents, local authorities, and the California Fish and Game Department researched alternatives in which Meatball could live out his life in comfort without the danger an urban setting can provide “domesticated” wild animals. On Wednesday, Meatball was successfully trapped unharmed and went to a holding center briefly for processing. He will then be transported to a large bear sanctuary out of state where he will be able to live out his life peacefully and happily.

Thank you to the residents, officials, and the California Fish and Game Department for making this happen. Meatball had become quite the celebrity and his well being was most important for our community.
