Letter: Sagal’s experience would help school board

Share

As I said many times during my years of serving on the City Council, the quality of life we enjoy in our city is directly related to the quality of our public schools.

Our excellent public schools were the reason why my parents moved to our community in 1972, were the reason why my wife and I chose to raise our family here, and are still a large part of why families today want to make La Cañada Flintridge their home.

On Nov. 5, those residents who live within the La Cañada Unified School District will be asked to go to the polls to elect three members to the LCUSD Governing Board. With the extreme challenges facing the district due to limited state funding, it is extremely important that we elect capable and knowledgeable candidates to the Governing Board.

David Sagal brings to the table leadership qualities and skills I believe are essential to helping the LCUSD through this very important time. Sagal has served as a business executive and attorney at Warner Bros., where he has spent a career dealing with complex financial and legal issues. His professional experience will provide a level of competence in financial matters that is essential to the successful running of the school board.

Sagal is an active parent with children in our public schools. He has a passion for serving our community and has already demonstrated his leadership abilities and commitment to our community.

As treasurer of the Verdugo Hills Hospital, he helped successfully maintain the financial viability of our community hospital at a time when many other hospitals are declining or failing altogether and was instrumental in its recent affiliation with USC.

As president of the LCHS Music Parents Association, he has maintained the high school band and orchestra programs on a sound financial footing. As both a Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster, he has mentored a generation of Scouts in our community.

Regardless of whether you have children in public school, the coming election is worthy of your attention and participation. I urge you to vote on Nov. 5 and to cast one of those votes for David Sagal.
