Sports Briefs: St. Francis, Flintridge Prep players notch all-league status

Golden Knights earn league honors

A pair of St. Francis High basketball players were bestowed with All-Mission League second-team recognition.

Junior guards Andre Henry and Dennis Flowers III picked up the accolades after the Golden Knights finished 14-14, 2-10 in league.

Henry averaged 16.4 points, 8.9 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. Flowers contributed 17.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per contest.

Rebels earn league recognition

Following a breakthrough season, which included qualifying for the playoffs for the first time since 2003, three members of the Flintridge Prep girls’ water polo team picked up All-Prep League accolades.

Freshman utility Natalie Kaplanyan was named to the first team after finishing with 65 goals and 60 steals.

“Natalie is an outstanding player and she’s set the standard for our young players,” Flintridge Prep coach Andrew Phillips said. “She’s definitely a dominant threat in our league and she’ll continue to show great promise.”

Lara Friedman and Danielle Maxwell were named to the second team.

Friedman, a junior utility, collected 15 goals and 45 steals. Maxwell, a junior utility, added 26 goals and 35 steals.

Flintridge Prep finished 9-11, 7-5 in league for third place and lost to La Mirada in a CIF Southern Section Division VII wild-card match.
