BOYS’ SOCCER

La Cañada 7, Blair 1: The Spartans clinched their second Rio Hondo League title in three years with a victory at home Thursday.

“I’m very happy and very proud,” La Cañada coach Bruno Costa said. “Looking forward to next year again and we’re going strong heading into the playoffs.”

The Spartans (15-5-5, 7-1-2 in league) got a pair of hat tricks from senior forwards Will Chant and Jake Tolkin. Connor Grogan added one in the mix.

After a disappointing 5-0 loss to South Pasadena on Jan. 24, La Cañada bounced back with back-to-back wins against Temple City, 2-1, and San Marino, 4-1, to put itself in prime position to regain the league title.

“The relationship with the players, we’ve known each other for three years, so we’re closing and we know eachother better,” said Costa on the highlight of the season. “Things are easier to handle.”

The CIF Southern Section boys’ soccer playoff brackets will be released on Saturday at 11 a.m.
