Spartans drop Golden Valley, 4-0


La Cañada 4, Golden Valley 0: Armand Bagramyan and Jeff Becker both scored two goals for La Cañada on Thursday in a pool-play game in the 33rd annual La Cañada Holiday Classic. Bagramyan also had an assist and Carlos Ruano had two assists of his own for the Spartans.

It was the first points of the tournament for La Cañada after it fell to Millikan, 3-0, Wednesday. The Spartans (6-4-1) will play in the tournament’s fifth-place game Friday at 2:30 p.m. versus La Salle (7-1-1).


Hart 58, La Cañada 53: Down six points heading into the fourth quarter, Hart came back to stamp its ticket to the championship game of the La Cañada New Year’s Ball Tournament Thursday night.

Courtney Chen had a game-high 21 points, seven assists and six rebounds for La Cañada. Micaela Anderson had a game-high 16 rebounds and 12 points for the Spartans.

La Cañada rolled through its competition in its two previous tournament games. The Spartans topped Franklin, 49-27, Wednesday behind Chen’s team-high 14 points, 10 steals, four rebounds and three assists. Anderson totaled 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Lauren Barsamian also had a team-high 15 boards for La Cañada (7-6).


La Salle 42, La Cañada 40: The Spartans fell to the Lancers for the second time this year in consolation bracket play of the La Salle/Temple City Holiday Classic on Thursday night.

The defeat came on the heels of a 58-41 setback to Village Christian on Wednesday.

The Spartans (6-5) will take on Hoover in the seventh-place game Friday at 6 p.m. at Temple City.
