Spartans blast three bombs in win
SOFTBALL
La Cañada 13, Arroyo 5: Aubri Thompson went three for four with two runs batted in and a double Tuesday and led a La Cañada offense that blasted three home runs.
Alyssa Stolmack had a three-run shot, Jessica Ogden went two for four with a homer, three RBI and three runs scores and Brenna Gay went two for three with a home run, two RBI and a double.
Stolmack also picked up the win, as she tossed three innings in the circle, giving up two hits and a walk, while striking out four batters.
The Spartans improved to 5-0 in the win.
BOYS’ GOLF
Milken Community 206, Flintridge Prep 219: Jack Bouchard carded a three-over-par 39 on Tuesday for the Rebels in a Prep League match at Woodley Lakes Golf Course. Josh Kim added a 41 for Flintridge Prep (2-2, 0-2 in league).
BOYS’ TENNIS
Flintridge Prep 11, Maranatha 7: Flintridge Prep received a singles sweep from Albert Lee and a doubles sweep from Daniel Nieto and Alex Khalsa on Tuesday to pick up the nonleague victory. Lee won, 6-0, 6-4, 6-3. Nieto and Khalsa worked together to win, 6-3, 6-3, 6-0.
La Cañada 10, Crescenta Valley 8: The Spartans picked up the nonleague victory Monday without their ace, Josh Kim, in the singles lineup.
Andre Danuns and Ryan Lee made sure La Cañada (3-2) didn’t miss Kim too much, as they both swept in singles. Danuns went 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 and Lee won all three sets, 6-2, 6-1, 6-0.
Michael Choi and Arthur Song picked up two sets, 6-2, 6-4, out of La Cañada’s No.1 doubles slot. Harrison Zuk and Lehoo Lim were responsible for the Spartans’ remaining two wins in No. 3 doubles, 6-1, 6-2.
St. Francis 18, Crespi 0: St. Francis (3-2) began Mission League play with a convincing win at Fremont Tennis Center on Monday.
Singles player Christopher Grosvenor swept without losing a game for the Golden Knights.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
South Pasadena 3, Flintridge Prep 0: Chadd Cosse had six kills and Kareem Ismail added five on Tuesday for the Rebels in a 25-12, 25-15, 25-14 nonleague home loss. Flintridge Prep fell to 3-5.
Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 3, St. Francis 1: Chris Thompson had 40 assists Monday for the host Golden Knights, who suffered a 25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 27-25 Mission League loss. Michael Bacall and Charles McCarthy collected 18 and 15 kills, respectively, for St. Francis (6-2, 2-2 in league).
BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD
St. Francis 66, Crespi 55: James Knowles won the 110- and 300-meter hurdles for the host Golden Knights on Monday in a Mission League dual meet. Knowles clocked 14.73 seconds in the 110 and 39.2 in the 300. St. Francis received a first-place effort from Ross Niederhaus in the 200 (23.71).
GIRLS’ LACROSSE
Palos Verdes Peninsula 12, La Cañada 8: Both teams went into halftime tied, but the Panthers outscored the Spartans, 7-3, in the second half for the victory Tuesday.
La Cañada (0-5, 0-1 in Prep League) is still looking for its first win of the season according to Maxpreps.com.
BASEBALL
Duarte 4, Flintridge Prep 3: The Rebels (1-3) fell Saturday in a Steve Richards Memorial Tournament contest at Duarte High.
