SOFTBALL

La Cañada 2, Monrovia 0: The Spartans’ offense struggled against the Wildcats once again this season, outside of a bloop single from Alyssa Stolmack that scored Olivia Leyva and Katy Lee, who singled and bunted their way aboard, respectively, in the bottom of the third inning.

Lauren Cox made it stand up for the win for La Cañada (13-2-1, 4-1-1 in Rio Hondo League), as she had a perfect game going through five innings, but wound up giving up two hits, while striking out eight batters in the game.

Kelsey Drange logged La Cañada’s fourth and final hit.

Westridge 5, Flintridge Prep 3: The Rebels led Friday afternoon’s Prep League contest, 2-1, going into the bottom of the fifth, where the Tigers scored three runs to take the lead for good.

BOYS’ TENNIS

La Cañada 16, Monrovia 2: The Spartans are three players down after losing No. 1 singles player Joshua Kim and No. 3 singles player Ryan Lee to injuries and another because of academic ineligibility.

It wasn’t enough to keep La Cañada from cruising to a Rio Hondo League win over the Wildcats at home Friday.

Lewon Lim played singles for the first time this season and swept for the Spartans, who swept all their doubles matches.

Injuries got the best of La Cañada (7-6, 3-4) Thursday, though, as it fell to Temple City, 15-3.
