La Cañada High girls' volleyball hangs high five

Five La Cañada High girls’ volleyball players were lauded by the Rio Hondo League when all-league selections were recently released.

Spartans juniors Loren Shin and Taylor Page led the way, as both players merited first-team selections.

Shin, a libero, was an adroit digger, averaging 5.1 digs per game in totaling 379 for the season, which accompanied her 31 assists and 20 aces.

Page led the Spartans on offense with 289 kills, which averaged out to 3.4 kills per game. Page also paced La Cañada with 54 aces and was second with 235 digs (2.7 per game).

As for the second team, the Spartans also boasted a pair of juniors in middle blocker Megan Arnold (116 kills, 27 blocks and 21 aces) and setter Leigh Sclafani (477 assists, 72 digs and 29 aces).

Spartans junior outside hitter Jenna Gray was named an honorable mention.

The Spartans finished with a 10-21 record and were 7-3 in the Rio Hondo League, which tied them for second with Monrovia.

La Cañada lost in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division II-AA playoffs, 3-0, at Los Osos.
