Sports Roundup: La Cañada High girls’ basketball wipes out Monrovia

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

La Cañada 56, Monrovia 16: Taking a 31-12 lead at the half, the Spartans never looked back en route to a Rio Hondo League road victory Wednesday.

Senior Courtney Chen led the way with 15 points and 10 steals, while the duo of Alyssa Miller and Marie Watson added eight points each for the Spartans (18-5, 6-1).

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

La Cañada 66, Monrovia 44: The Spartans kept hold of first place in the Rio Hondo League with a road win Wednesday night.

The Spartans (17-6, 7-0 in league) ran away with Wednesday’s contest in the second half, turning a nine-point lead into a 22-point blowout.

Loyola 73, St. Francis 61: A strong effort by the Golden Knights came up short in Mission League action Wednesday evening.

Junior guard Kyle Leufroy paced the Golden Knights (15-8, 4-5) with 28 points, while Evan Crawford added 14 points and John Carroll chipped in 10 points.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

La Cañada 4, Monrovia 0: The Spartans remained unbeaten an in first place in the Rio Hondo League with Wednesday’s home win.

The Spartans are now 15-0-1, 6-0-1 in league.

Flintridge Prep 2, Chadwick 1: The Rebels picked up a key Prep League win on Wednesday afternoon thanks to goals by freshmen Jillian Brady and Maia Cohen. The Rebels improved to 8-4-4 overall and 4-1-1 in league.
