The Dodgers reinforced their bench Saturday by calling up journeyman outfielder Roger Bernadina from triple-A Albuquerque.

Mattingly said he envisions Bernadina as a pinch-running specialist.

“It gives us a true speed guy off the bench,” Mattingly said.

Mattingly said Bernadina’s role could be similar to Dee Gordon’s last year.

Bernadina, 30, has played in 539 games over seven major league seasons. He is a career .236 hitter.

He started this season with the Cincinnati Reds, who released him. He signed with the Dodgers as a free agent in July.

His previous experience in the major leagues included time with the Washington Nationals (2008-13) and the Philadelphia Phillies (2008).
