Dodgers send down Mike Bolsinger and call up Chin-Hui Tsao
One day after calling up Mike Bolsinger for a spot start, the Dodgers sent him back to the minor leagues.
The Dodgers called up reliever Chin-Hui Tsao, 34, from triple-A Oklahoma City. Bolsinger returned there after giving up three runs in 4 1/3 innings of Wednesday’s 8-1 loss to the Angels.
However, the Dodgers currently are playing with a three-man bench. They figure to drop a reliever and add a position player on Friday, when they resume playing under National League rules in San Diego.
Adrian Gonzalez, who left Monday’s game because of tightness in his back, was not in the starting lineup Thursday, for the third consecutive game. Manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that he hoped Gonzalez would return by Friday.
In the meantime, the Dodgers’ bench consists of two healthy position players: A.J. Ellis, backing up catcher Yasmani Grandal, and utilityman Enrique Hernandez, backing up everyone else.
