Football: Will the top seeds keep winning in the City Section?

There were lots of first-round blowouts in the City Section Division I playoffs. Will the top seeds continue to rout the competition on their way to East Los Angeles College on Dec. 6?

Friday’s schedule:

Birmingham (8-3) at Narbonne (9-2): Birmingham fell off the radar as a possible semifinalist team when it lost to Granada Hills in the West Valley League. The Patriots, on their best day, can cause problems with sophomore running back Sterling Salguero. But Narbonne has too many athletes and too many weapons.

Garfield (8-3) at Carson (6-5): Garfield has been waiting for a breakthrough win, and this could be it. The Bulldogs added speed this season and have enough to challenge Carson. It still comes down to which team can avoid turnovers, penalties and mistakes.

San Pedro (8-3) at Venice (9-2): Never underestimate a Mike Walsh-coached team. San Pedro will like playing in the mud at Venice. But the Gondoliers were competitive in losses to Chaminade and Oaks Christian. They have the most varsity experience of any team left in the playoffs. They want to face Crenshaw in the semifinals.

Dorsey (7-4) at Crenshaw (7-4): The Dons haven’t been competitive against Crenshaw for the last two seasons, and unless the offensive and defensive lines can step up their play, this game will be no different. Crenshaw has been cruising through City teams behind quarterback Ajene Harris.

In Division II, the four top seeds _ San Fernando, Sylmar, Granada Hills and Eagle Rock _ all should win their quarterfinal games and set up terrific semifinal matchups.

In Division III, Rancho Dominguez comes out of the Coliseum League and presents a dangerous opponent for No. 3-seeded Bernstein. View Park, Sun Valley Poly and Wilson all should advance.
