Football: Cathedral voted into Pac-5 league [Updated]

Share

The Catholic Athletic Association voted Tuesday to add Cathedral to a four-team league made up of Loyola, Bishop Amat and Gardena Serra for football only. Previously, Salesian was in the league but won an appeal, forcing the CAA to take another vote. The league is expected to be in the Pac-5 Division.

Cathedral was selected over St. Francis. The other likely Pac-5 Division league will be made up of Alemany, Notre Dame, Crespi and Chaminade.

Cathedral will appeal to the Southern Section Council on April 30, football Coach Kevin Pearson said.

The Phantoms could have a good argument, since in head to head against St. Francis the last four years, St. Francis is 3-1. St. Francis had preferred that it and Cathedral stay out of the Pac-5 Division, but the other schools’ proposals won out, And if the appeal is a choice between the Golden Knights and Cathedral, St. Francis could be in trouble based on head to head history.

The new Mission League, as it stands, will be made up of St. Francis, Harvard-Westlake, La Salle, Salesian and St. Paul.

It takes effect this fall.
