Boys’ basketball: Spencer Freedman makes seven threes in Mater Dei win

Sophomore Spencer Freedman made seven three-pointers and finished with 24 points in Mater Dei’s 78-46 win over Long Beach Wilson in the North Orange County tournament.

Mater Dei improved to 8-0.

Ayala stayed unbeaten with an 81-43 win over Paramount. Servite defeated El Modena, 73-35. Pearson Parker finished with 21 points and Cameron Griffin 18. La Mirada defeated Valley Christian, 66-62. Anthony Newman and Dirk Helaire each had 19 points.

Inglewood upset Taft, 64-50, despite 24 points from Brandon Thomas.

In a Golden League game, Highland (6-1, 3-0) defeated Palmdale, 61-44. Deshay Gipson scored 14 points, Michael Brandon had 13 points and KJ Warren added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Jake Linsky had 23 points in Northwood’s 75-40 win over Mission Viejo.

In the La Canada tournament, St. Francis defeated Renaissance, 77-42. Malakhi Jensen had 21 points and Brett Gangi added 16. Damien improved to 7-0 with a 74-23 win over Arcadia. Justin Hemsley had 14 points and Liam Ryan added 11.

St. Bonaventure defeated North Hollywood, 68-39. Thomas Frank scored 22 points and Ryan Basaldua added 21 points. Darius Vines had nine assists.

Mickey Babek had 22 points in Peninsula’s 59-48 win over North Torrance.
