Walk-off walk beats St. Francis 6-5

Things were looking pretty bleak on a cloudy Monday for host Sherman Oaks Notre Dame in its Mission League baseball opener against St. Francis.

Chris Stamos was in complete control, holding Notre Dame to two hits through five innings. An RBI single by Brendan Durfee and a two-run single by Mikey Kane gave St. Francis a 5-1 lead.

But Stamos was pulled after his 104th pitch and giving up a leadoff walk in the top of the sixth. St. Francis never recovered. Notre Dame ended up getting three bases loaded walks over the final two innings to pull out a 6-5 victory.

Second chances are always desirable, and that’s what Pasadena and Cajon get on Tuesday night in the Southern California Division boys’ basketball regionals.

Both lost Southern Section championship games to Chino Hills and Crossroads, respectively. Pasadena will play at Chino Hills in a Division I semifinal and Cajon will play at Crossroads in a Division II semifinal.

Pasadena guards Bryce Hamilton and Darius Brown will try to outduel Onyeka Okongwu and Andre Ball, two tall, talented front-line players.
