Chris Paul wanted to play for the Clippers over the Lakers

Chris Paul apparently feels no ill will toward NBA commissioner David Stern for kaboshing a trade last year that would have sent the All-Star point guard to the Lakers.

Paul told GQ magazine that he preferred to play for the Clippers, rather than the Lakers.

“They had the better pieces,” Paul said. “And winning with the Clippers would be legendary.”

Paul helped transform the Clippers last season into contenders in the West.

The Clippers made the playoffs for the first time since 2006 and went on to beat Memphis in the first round, winning only their third playoff series in franchise history.

In the interview with GQ, Paul reveals lots of interesting tidbits about his new life in Los Angeles. He loves living in Bel Air, he taught his son not to do the “Blake Face” unless there’s money involved and he doesn’t want his daughter to date until she’s 40 years old.

Paul also made it clear that he has not quite gotten over an event that occurred last year against the Lakers.

Remember when Pau Gasol touched the top of Paul’s head during a game, a gesture that Paul perceived as patronizing but Gasol said was completely innocuous?

Paul remembers it too. It still makes his stomach turn.

“We call that sonnin’,” Paul said. “Like when I take Li’l Chris to the bathroom, I’ll walk with my hand on his head. That’s my son. You know what I mean? I understand that Gasol is that tall, but don’t do to me what I do to my son.”

The Clippers season begins Oct. 31 against Memphis. In their second game, they’ll play the Lakers on Nov. 2.
