UCLA’s Kyle Anderson, Zach LaVine formally announce for NBA draft

UCLA guards Kyle Anderson and Zach LaVine made official what was already known: both will be available for theNBA draft.

UCLA officials announced Wednesday that both Anderson and LaVine would forego their remaining eligibility. Anderson was a sophomore and LaVine a freshman last season.

Still to be determined is whether guards Jordan Adams and Norman Powell will return. Both have filed paperwork to determine their draft status. Indications are that both are likely to stay at UCLA.

Losing Anderson leaves a void at point guard for the Bruins, who lost to Florida in theNCAASouth Regional semifinals this past season. He averaged 14.6 points, 8.8 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game.

Anderson was named third-team All-American by the Associated Press and was thePac-12tournament’s most valuable player. Freshman Bryce Alford was the Bruins’ backup point guard, though it’s not his natural position.

LaVine averaged 9.4 points as a reserve. He struggled as a shooter once Pac-12 play began in January.

The NBA draft is June 26.
