Giants put reliever Sergio Romo on the disabled list because of an elbow injury

The San Francisco Giants placed reliever Sergio Romo and infielder Ehire Adrianza on the 15-day disabled list Friday and replaced them on the roster with outfielder Mac Williamson and right-hander Derek Law.

Adrianza is expected to miss six to eight weeks with a broken left foot. Romo, the Giants’ primary setup man, has a strained flexor tendon in his right elbow.

Rays’ Forsythe, Kiermaier hurt

Tampa Bay second baseman Logan Forsythe and center fielder Kevin Kiermaier left Friday’s game against the Chicago White Sox after colliding in shallow right-center field while chasing a pop fly in the fourth inning at St. Petersburg, Fla.

Forsythe suffered a bruised left hip and lower leg. Kiermaier was being evaluated, the team said. Later in the game, a fan was struck by a foul ball and taken off on a stretcher in the seventh inning. No information on the fan’s condition was available.

Boston third baseman Pablo Sandoval , placed on the disabled list Wednesday, is scheduled to see orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews Monday for a second opinion on his strained left shoulder. . . . Boston activated catcher Christian Vazquez, who missed last season after reconstructive elbow surgery, and started him against Toronto. The Red Sox also recalled infielder Marco Hernandez from Pawtucket, R.I., and optioned catcher Blake Swihart to the triple-A affiliate. . . .

The Chicago Cubs activated utility player Javier Baez, who was on the DL after injuring his left thumb during spring training, and optioned infielder Munenori Kawasaki to triple-A Iowa. . . . Umpire John Hirschbeck left the Cubs’ home game against Colorado in the eighth inning after he appeared to take a foul ball off his neck.
