NFL notes: Ryan Tannehill traded to Titans; Kareem Hunt gets eight-game suspension

The NFL issued an eight-game suspension to Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt, who was caught on video kicking a woman and later was involved in a fight at a resort.

The league on Friday cited a violation of its personal conduct policy “for physical altercations at his residence in Cleveland last February and at a resort in Ohio last June.” Hunt will not be paid during the half-season suspension, which he will not appeal.

The league recently completed an investigation that included a review of law enforcement records, video and electronic communications and interviews with witnesses and Hunt.

Hunt was released last season by the Kansas City Chiefs after a video surfaced showing him pushing and kicking a woman. The footage drew a public outcry and led to the Chiefs cutting ties with one of their best players amid a Super Bowl push.

The Browns signed Hunt in February.

Titans acquire Tannehill from Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins traded quarterback Ryan Tannehill on Friday to the Tennessee Titans in a deal that also involved draft picks. The Dolphins sent their sixth-round pick this year to the Titans for a fourth-round choice in 2020 and a seventh-round pick in April.

Tannehill’s sports agency tweeted that as part of the trade, he signed a one-year deal with the Titans. He’s expected to replace Blaine Gabbert as the backup to Marcus Mariota.

Tannehill turns 31 in July, and his departure from Miami had been expected. He became the starting quarterback as a rookie in 2012 and has still never taken a postseason snap.

His contract was to balloon to $18.7 million in base salary this year, and he would have counted $26.6 million against the salary cap.

The Dolphins are seeking their quarterback of the future under new coach Brian Flores. They have the 13th choice in the April draft, and might devote their first-round pick to a QB for only the second time since 1984.

Bridgewater to stay with Saints

The New Orleans Saints have agreed to terms on a deal with free agent quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to keep him as Drew Brees’ main backup.

Bridgewater, a Miami native, had met with the Dolphins on Wednesday. Terms of the New Orleans deal was not released.

The Saints acquired the former first-round draft pick last August. Bridgewater played in five games for the Saints and started their regular-season finale against Carolina.

Board approves Raiders lease in Oakland for 2019

The Coliseum Authority approved a lease agreement Friday to keep the Raiders in Oakland for at least one more season.

The board voted unanimously to approve the lease for 2019 with an option for 2020. The deal still must be approved by the Oakland City Council and the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, but no hang-ups are expected.

The Raiders will pay $7.5 million in rent for the Coliseum and the practice facility in Alameda in 2019 and have a $10.5 million option for 2020 in case their new $1.8 billion, 65,000-seat stadium in Las Vegas isn’t ready by then. The rent will drop by $500,000 each year if the Raiders decide to play one of their two home exhibition games at another site.

The Coliseum Authority will retain naming rights for the stadium and get an additional $750,000 from the team to settle a dispute over parking revenue.
