Add catcher Yasmani Grandal to the list of injured Dodgers

The Dodgers training room is getting a little crowded. Joining infielders Howie Kendrick, Justin Turner and Alex Guerrero on the shelf this week is catcher Yasmani Grandal, who suffered a right forearm bruise in Wednesday’s game against the Angels and is not expected to play again until Monday.

Grandal underwent treatment Thursday and Friday and did not participate in workouts. The injury is not deemed serious enough to warrant an MRI test, and Manager Dave Roberts expects Grandal to resume throwing and swinging on Saturday.

“It wasn’t one particular foul ball or throw” that he got hurt on, “he really can’t recall,” Roberts said. “But when we were in Tempe he said it didn’t feel right.”

Turner, recovering from microsurgery on his left knee, hopes to play in his first Cactus League game on Monday, but he will be eased into action, starting at designated hitter for a few games before playing third base.

Turner has taken 15-20 at-bats in minor league scrimmages and expects to take an additional 15 or so in the next two days. He’s been running at full speed and participating in defensive drills.

“I’m sticking with the plan they set up for me knowing it’s in my best interests,” Turner said. “I feel good physically. I still think about [the knee] a little bit, but for the most part, I just need to go out and play.”

Kendrick has been sidelined since Monday because of right groin tightness. He has been hitting, taking grounders and running in a straight line but won’t play until he is able to run the bases at full speed. Roberts hopes to get Kendrick some at-bats in a minor league game by Monday.

“It’s good to know it’s not anything major,” Kendrick said. “Now, it’s just a matter of opening it up at full speed and getting back on the field.”

Guerrero, out for a week because of a sore left knee, could return to action this weekend.
