Atlanta Braves say they’re moving out of Turner Field

About 20 years, if you ask the Atlanta Braves. The Braves announced plans Monday to move from Turner Field to a new ballpark in suburban Cobb County.
The Braves said the new park would open for the 2017 season. The Braves moved into Turner Field in 1997, after the venue was downsized from its use as the showcase stadium for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
According to the Braves, Turner Field would require at least $350 million in renovations. The Braves said they would instead move to a new suburban ballpark, defying a decades-long trend of major league teams moving into a city center rather than away from it.
The Braves said the new ballpark would cost $672 million, with the team contributing an unspecified amount and Cobb County coordinating public funding. It was not immediately clear whether that public funding had been approved without public notice or remains subject to approval.
