Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman returns from injury: Still recovering from minor back surgery last month, Burroughs High graduate Eben Britton missed the team’s season opener last week.
Although he’s still not up to speed, Britton saw limited time Sunday in Jacksonville’s 32-3 loss to the New York Jets.
“[Britton’s] not quite ready to play a full game,” Jaguars head Coach Jack Del Rio told the Florida Times-Union. “The plan was to [play him] 10 to 15 plays. His conditioning is getting better. He should be able to return to full duty probably next week.”
Britton, 23, a 6-foot-6, 310-pound tackle, suffered a ruptured disk in August while weightlifting.
The Jaguars will play at the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
Area equestrian captures world title: Burbank resident Christine Hocutt-Senteney won the Reserve World Championship in Western Horsemanship at the 2011 Adequan Select American Quarter Horse World Championship Show on Aug, 31 in Amarillo, Texas.
Hocutt-Senteney showed her homebred American Quarter Horse, Bellieve Hes Blazing, a 1998 brown gelding.
In the Western Horsemanship class, 67 entries competed for world champion honors and a purse of $13,200. Hocutt-Senteney and Bellieve Hes Blazing received a prize package that included a custom-designed silver trophy, specially designed logoed jacket sponsored by Cripple Creek Outerwear, Montana Silversmiths buckle sponsored by The American Quarter Horse Journal and a Tex Tan product and a rosette with medallion.
The Adequan Select World Show is the world’s largest, single-breed world championship horse show open exclusively to amateur exhibitors age 50 and older. It is the pinnacle for Select competitors around the world who must qualify for the event by earning a predetermined number of points to compete in each of the 41 classes representing Halter, English and Western disciplines. The 1,290 entries at this year’s event represented competitors from 42 states, Canada, Germany and Argentina.
Local ties for second in national equestrian event: Rison Harrison Naness, a 14-year-old resident, competed in the 2011 United States Equestrian Federation Dressage Seat Medal Finals Aug. 27 at Dressage at Lamplight in Wayne, Ill., near Chicago.
In the USEF Dressage Seat Medals Finals, Harrison Naness tied for second with a score of 73%. Bronwyn Cordiak won the division with a score of 78%.
Harrison Naness, who trains at the Paddock Riding Club in Los Feliz, advanced to the competition by placing among the top two finishers in a regional qualifier last October.
She was able to raise more than $5,500 by fundraising yo pay for her trip to the competition.
