Police: Woman injured after alleged attempted robbery

A 35-year-old Glendale woman was injured Thursday after a motorist passing alongside her tried to steal her purse and then dragged her beside his vehicle, police said.

The woman was taken to Glendale Adventist Medical Center, where she was treated for injuries to her face, hands and knees, according to Glendale police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.

She reportedly had just parked her car at 5:10 p.m. in the 400 block of Salem Street and began crossing the street, when she noticed another vehicle approaching her.

The woman thought the driver wanted to talk to her, so she stopped and waited as he drove up to her, Lightfoot said.

However, instead of talking to her, the driver allegedly grabbed her purse and tried to pull it away.

But she didn’t give up easily.

The woman held onto her purse as the driver accelerated his vehicle and drove away.

She eventually fell to the ground, where police found her.

Police said the driver was described as a male Armenian, about 20 years old with a thin build and short black hair. He may have been wearing a dark shirt.

A witness described the driver’s vehicle as a 2000s black Ford Focus, possibly a hatchback with rear damage.
