City staff, friends and community members thanked Capt. Dave Silversparre Monday night for his five years of service leading the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Silversparre, a La Crescenta resident, announced last month that he was being transferred to a new position. He will become captain of the radio room at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Communications and Fleet Management Bureau in Los Angeles.

La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce President Pat Anderson, the chamber’s board chairman, Wes Seastrom, and representatives from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the La Cañada Flintridge Trails Council and the offices of Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) and State Sen. Carol Liu (D-La Cañada Flintridge) presented certificates, plaques and gifts to Silversparre during Monday’s meeting of the La Cañada Flintridge City Council.

Mayor Laura Olhasso remembered sharing “the year from hell” with Silversparre. In 2009, a big-rig slammed into another vehicle on the Angeles Crest Highway, killing a father and his daughter. Authorities responded to the Station fire in the same year, followed by mudslides and home evacuations in the winter of 2010.

“I’ve worked with a lot of sheriff’s captains and we’ve all been blessed with excellent service from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department,” said Olhasso. “But I don’t think we’ve had any sheriff’s captain who has served us with the passion and the love that Dave Silversparre has and we are a better community and we are a luckier community and we are a safer community because of his service.”

Silversparre thanked the city staff. “I’ve been honored to have been living my dream here,” he said.

On May 5, Capt. Bill Song started as the new commander of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station.
