La Cañada Flintridge residents Ellen and Anthony Portantino were among 26 couples who were honored July 26 by the National Parents Day Coalition in a ceremony held at Pasadena City Hall.

Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard gave the keynote address and presented the awards to the honorees, who were recognized as exemplary parents and role models. The Portantinos are the parents of two daughters, Sofia and Bella.

“Ellen and I are very honored to be recognized alongside so many fantastic parents in the San Gabriel Valley who have raised terrific children. Raising our two wonderful daughters has been our proudest accomplishment and makes me excited every day to participate in their personal growth and education,” said Anthony Portantino.

Ellen Portantino is a Warner Bros. executive, a PTA officer and a Girl Scout leader. Anthony Portantino is a former mayor of La Cañada Flintridge who went on to serve in the state Assembly. Like his wife, he is active in the PTA. He has also been an AYSO referee for the past 16 years and an usher at St. Bede Catholic Church.
