Looking for a scare this Halloween? Here are five places that offer something different to do, from a tarot card reading to a Halloween soiree to a night hike in a national park.

Free fortunes: Where can you find a decent psychic on Halloween? Tarot card reader, psychic and life coach Sterling Mire will tap into the part of your life you might not know is happening. She’ll be giving free tarot card readings for guests and the public from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Andaz West Hollywood. Sign up early in the hotel lounge to make sure you get a spot.

Spirits please: Wear your costume and post a photo of yourself on Instagram with the hashtag #FSHalloween and there may be a Pumpkin Spice Martini in your future. It costs $5 for those who perform the social media trick and to collect their treat at the Four Seasons in Westlake Village on Friday. Arrive in costume at the hotel’s soiree from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. and you’ll also receive 25% off food and drinks.

Silent and spooky: Watch the classic 1925 version of “Phantom of the Opera” on Halloween night outdoors in San Diego’s Balboa Park. The silent flm is free and will have a live accompaniment courtesy of the Spreckels Organ. If you want to stay over, the US Grant Hotel in downtown will give you free candy and a $229 a night rate that’s available Oct. 30 through Nov. 1. (You can watch “Phantom” in your room if you miss the screening.

The medium is in: Spend Thursday night under the stars with spiritual medium Vickie Emanuele at a resort in Ojai. Giant ghosts: Nothing is spookier on Halloween than roaming around in the black of night. Join a lanterns hike Friday night to explore “Ghosts of the Giant Forest & Ghosts of Grant Grove” in Kings Canyon National Park. From 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., the “giants” here are the sequoias you’ll visit that have names such as the Clara Barton Tree and the Susan B. Anthony Tree.
