•The Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad in Boone, Iowa, offers a variety of scenic excursions using vintage railroad cars. An example is the Fraser Train that operates daily through Oct. 31. •Tickets are on sale for the 18th Annual Kohler Food & Wine Experience in Kohler, Wis. Scheduled Oct. 18-21, the event includes seminars with celebrity chefs, food and wine tastings and more. New this year is a Spirits District featuring experts from around the world and interactive sampling sessions. Tickets often sell out fast, so don’t dally. www.kohlerfoodandwine.com
•Wilmot Mountain ski area in Wilmot, Wis., holds its Epic Fall Fest on Oct. 13. Among activities will be hayrides, a scavenger hunt, pumpkin painting, live music and wine tasting. In the evening there will be a bonfire and a movie under the stars. https://tinyurl.com/yacaxqyg
•Music, food, craft beers, Michigan wines and the work of local artisans make up Indie Fest 18, which will be Oct. 20 at The Mendel Center at Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor, Mich. National acts performing will be Switchback, The Accidentals, and The Hunts. https://tinyurl.com/yd4tn3jg
•French Moderns: Monet to Matisse, 1850-1950 will be on exhibit from Oct. 9 to Jan. 6, 2019 at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, Iowa. The exhibition, drawn from the collection of the Brooklyn Museum, brings together 60 paintings and sculptures by artists including Monet, Cezanne, Renoir, Matisse, Degas and Rodin. https://tinyurl.com/y9nvs3kp
•The Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, Mich., holds its annual Fall Bonsai Show on Oct. 6-7. Members of the West Michigan Bonsai Club will demonstrate bonsai techniques and there will be trees and specialty tools for sale. https://tinyurl.com/y7jf3omh
•More than 2,000 vehicles, most from 1972 and earlier, will be on display Sept. 27-30 during the Ducktail Run Rod & Custom Car Show in Gas City, Ind. There will be car judging, a swap meet, contests, live music and more. www.ducktailrun.com
•Apparently it’s never too early to snowmobile. Snowmobiles will race on grass at the Wausau Snowmobile Grass Drags & Swap Meet, Sept. 29-30 in Wausau, Wis. •Barbecue on the River annually attracts 40,000 BBQ fans to the riverfront in Paducah, Ky. More than 35 barbecue teams will compete as they cook up 80,000 pounds of pork and chicken. There’s also live entertainment. Dates are Sept. 27-29. www.bbqontheriver.org
