BugFest events: The Town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea celebrates lobster miniseason with its fourth annual BugFest-By-The-Sea. A beach and underwater pier clean-up starts at 8 a.m. Aug. 1, with a free Scuba Cowboy concert at 1:30 p.m. and a Stoked on Salt Family Fun Day featuring nautical arts and crafts, snorkeling, skim boarding, face painting, a barbecue and games and prizes for kids from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.. Loxahatchee tours: Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound has its last guided canoe and kayak tour of the Loxahatchee River from 10 a.m. to noon July 31. The guide will go up the river to Kitching Creek and talk about the river, wildlife and the history of the park. The park entry fee is $6 per vehicle. Canoe and kayak rentals range from $15 to $20 for the first two hours. For reservations, call 561-745-5551.

ORV closure: The annual 60-day off-road vehicle closure in Big Cypress National Preserve will be lifted on July 31. All areas of the preserve that allow for ORV use will be accessible on marked, designated trails. That includes airboat access into Zone 4. Saltwater Showdown: The final event in the three-tournament Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit, the Mercury/SeaVee Saltwater Showdown is Aug. 8 out of Hillsboro Inlet Park. The top 75 teams from the Shootout and Slam qualified for the event. Visit bluewatermovements.com.

Snakehead tournament: A JD’s Custom Baits Snakehead Round-Up is safe light to 2 p.m. Aug. 15 out of Veterans Memorial Park, 7044 NW 1st St., Margate. Entry fee is $40 per angler or $40 per two-person team. Payback is 100 percent, with first place winning $420 with 20 entries. Call 754-816-2248. The final tournament is Sept. 12.
