Name: EcoReco M5 E-Scooter

What it is: an eco-friendly, portable electric scooter designed for adults, with speeds up to 20 mph. It is made of aircraft-quality aluminum alloy with a silent hub motor, a backlit LED dashboard and a fast-charging lithium battery. It travels up to 20 miles on a single charge. In fact, EcoReco says you can ride 500 miles on a dollar’s worth of electricity. Safety features make this easy for beginners because of its low center of gravity and a safe-start mechanism that keeps the electric motor from starting unless the scooter is pushed off manually. The M5’s built-in front and rear suspension and rugged wheels provide a smooth ride on multiple surfaces from sidewalks to streets. The M5’s folded dimensions are 3 feet by 1 foot by 1/2 foot. It weighs 36 pounds.

The good: Having never ridden a skateboard or a scooter, I was shocked that I felt safe at first scoot. It was easy to stop suddenly because my feet were so low to the ground. The M5 was ideal for zipping around Long Beach and San Diego without wearing out my feet. And it helped me run errands locally on a single charge. Jay Sung of EcoReco said customers fly with the M5 as a carry-on like a stroller, but I tested it only on road trips because I always have two carry-ons without the scooter. It folds up so easily that I can pop it in my trunk in less than 30 seconds.

The bad: I wish it were lighter and cost less.
