Heads up for those thinking about hopping on a train this weekend to go Christmas shopping in Orange and San Diego counties.

Metrolink and Amtrak are canceling some rail service this weekend because construction crews will be installing a second main track and rail bridges along the L.A.-San Diego-San Luis Obispo rail corridor.

Metrolink will cancel service on its Orange County and Inland Empire lines on Saturday and Sunday. It’s also canceling trains 644 and 645 on Friday.

Amtrak too will cancel Pacific Surfliner trains between San Diego and Los Angeles on Saturday and Sunday. There will be no service for southbound trains 564, 566, 572, 578, 582 and 590 and northbound trains 565, 571, 577, 583 and 587. Other trains on this route on Friday, Saturday and Sunday will provide full or limited coach service to train stops. Check Amtrak’s service alerts or call (800) 872-7245 for specific route information.

Amtrak will run a special bus for people who had intended to take the train Sunday to see the San Diego Chargers play the Buffalo Bills at Qualcomm Stadium. Fans will be transported by bus from Los Angeles, Fullerton, Santa Ana, Irvine, San Juan Capistrano and Oceanside to the San Diego Old Town train station. From there, it’s a trolley ride to the stadium.
