At SoCal’s Ontario Airport, now you can reserve on-site parking online

Ontario International Airport in Ontario, Calif., just raised the bar for making parking more convenient. A new parking reservation program allows travelers to go online, book a space and pay in advance.

Reservations are accepted for daily and/or valet parking at the airport through a system that tracks available spaces, a recent airport news release said.

To make a reservation, travelers can go to booking.flyontario.com and select a check-in and return date, just as you would for a hotel reservation.

Prices for parking are displayed (I found the cheapest price of $32 in Lot 2 for Feb. 1 to 3), and then select and pay.

A bar code sent by email allows you to enter and exit the parking lot on the selected dates.

LAX, which currently doesn’t offer online booking for airport parking, is on track to adopt such upgrades, which could go into effect as soon as 2020.

“These updates include the integration of smart parking solutions, valet and reserved parking, and automated entry/exit and payment systems,” spokeswoman Becca Doten wrote in an email Tuesday.

But back to Ontario Airport. What if visitors don’t want to use the new digital program?

You can still park at airport lots without a reservation, but online prices will always be cheaper. Posted lot prices start at $13 a day at economy Lot 3, and $18 to $24 a day at Lot 2.

Ontario Airport is operated jointly by the city of Ontario and San Bernardino County. Last year the airport, about 38 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, served 5.1 million travelers.
