Schiff congratulates Blue Ribbon School

Students of La Cañada Elementary School were treated to a special spirit rally Friday, when Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) made an on-campus appearance to congratulate them on being named a National Blue Ribbon School.

In November, school administrators traveled to the nation’s capitol to receive an award during a recognition ceremony. Friday’s event was a schoolwide celebration of the honor.

Schiff presented the school with a flag he had flown over the Capitol in honor of the achievement, and spoke with students about the excellence they — and the school — had demonstrated.

“I wanted to personally congratulate the students, teachers, school board members and administrative staff at La Cañada Elementary for the extraordinary achievement of becoming a Blue Ribbon school,” Schiff said. “The whole community has a lot to be proud of, and I’m sure that La Cañada Elementary will continue to shine in the future.”

The school was one of 15 Blue Ribbon schools in the state and 286 in the nation so named by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, and the school finished first in the district in 2013 with an Academic Performance Index score of 970 out of a possible 1,000.
