Art Exhibits

Three new exhibits open this weekend at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library, 1008 Wall St.: Perry Vasquez’s “Under the Perfect Sun,” various artists’ tributes in “30 Years of Pam: Portraits of Pam Whidden (1952-2018)” and “The Political Impulse,” a selection from the Athenaeum’s artists’ books collection. There are three, free events to catch this week at the La Jolla Riford Library:

1) The “Hidden La Jolla” exhibit is only on view until Sept. 28, and features paintings of some of the more secretive or unknown sights around town. Artists include: Joli Beal, Hillary Gwynn Brady, Leah Higgins, Sally Irwin, Ken Goldman, Stephanie Goldman, Cindy Klong, Patricia Jasper Clark, Dot Renshaw, Rita Pacheco, Salli Sachse, Paul Strahm, Sweig, Richard Warner, Toni Williams, Steve Wilson and Jeff Yeomans.

2) Anna Grigorian and Natasha Gubenko of the Grigorian and Gubenko Piano Duo come will perform a slate of music from French composers, including Claude Debussy, Camikke Saint-Saens, Francis Poulenc, Maurice Ravel and Astor Piazzolla, 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23.

3) The star-studded 2017 “Murder on the Orient Express” screens, 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24. Cast includes Kenneth Branagh, Daisy Ridley, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Judi Dench, Penelope Cruz, Josh Gad, Willem Dafoe and others.
