In aChord at Carmel Valley Library

December’s free family music program sponsored by the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. in the library’s community room.

In aChord Men’s Ensemble is one of San Diego’s premier singing groups dazzling audiences with their signature sound of tight-harmony, pop, jazz and seasonal music. Known for their electrifying performances and unique vocal blend, this group has entertained audiences of all ages throughout San Diego County.

Under the artistic direction of Bob Wuertz, In aChord’s 13 singing members continue to produce the remarkable degree of musicality for which they are known. Annual Light Up A Life fundraiser Dec. 10

The Annual Light Up A Life fundraiser will be held Sunday, Dec. 10 from 4-7 p.m. at the Del Mar Plaza.

Monica Nash, of Chaparro and Nash Real Estate Group, has teamed up with local sponsors, including the Charitable Foundation and Carmel Valley Moms, for the fifth year to support local at-risk youth through the San Diego Center for Children and to ensure each child receives a Christmas gift this year.

The event will feature live entertainment by Chris Lomeli Sounds, as well as free Santa photos. The event will also include a light buffet dinner. Admission is $25 or bring an unwrapped gift for age 12 and over.

Del Mar Village announces holiday events, offerings

The Del Mar Village Association recently announced a lineup of festive offerings in the Del Mar Village.

Free Parking - The City of Del Mar will offer free parking in downtown Del Mar for customers throughout the holiday season. The all-day parking gift from the city includes complimentary downtown parking where holiday bags are posted. The free parking takes place Dec. 2-3, 9-10, 16-17, 23-24, 30-31 and Jan. 1.

Santa By the Sea - Sunday, Dec. 3, 3 p.m. - 5 p.m.

This is a free holiday event offers something for every member of the family. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be onsite to pose for pictures. Live music will be provided by the Original Dickens Carolers; holiday treats and drinks will be supplied by local Del Mar Village restaurants. There will be a Make Your Own Rad Hatter Holiday Hats station sponsored by the Del Mar Foundation and a workshop for writing and sending letters to Santa at the North Pole. The event culminates with the annual tree lighting at 5 p.m. The festivities take place in the L’Auberge Amphitheater at the corner of Camino Del Mar and 15th street in Del Mar.

Holiday Voucher Program – now through Dec. 31

Del Mar Village retail shops and restaurants have teamed up to make shopping and dining in Del Mar during the holidays not only festive but rewarding. Each purchase of $75 at one of over 30 participating local retail shops earns the customer a $15 voucher toward dining at over 15 participating Del Mar Village restaurants.

Santa Claus to visit SB Library Dec. 6

Jolly Santa is arriving at the Solana Beach Library Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m., to make his favorite stop on the holiday tour. Coming with Santa is Elf Jingles who is an expert at face painting and making balloon animals. The library’s service-dog friends are coming to watch all the fun, hoping to have a story read to them. A quartet of holiday shows at North Coast Rep

December theatregoers will find something for everyone’s taste at North Coast Repertory Theatre. Solana Beach Holiday Tree Lighting

The City of Solana Beach’s Parks and Recreation Commission is hosting the annual Holiday Tree Lighting Event at Fletcher Cove Park on Sunday, Dec. 3 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public.

The event will feature plenty of sweets, treats, cider and hot cocoa to go along with all the fun. Festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. so don’t be late or you might miss Santa’s arrival!

‘Deck the Halls’ at Del Mar Art Center Gallery

Del Mar Art Center Gallery, located in the Del Mar Plaza, is hosting its annual holiday season celebration and fundraiser titled “Deck the Halls”! Saturday, Dec. 2, 5-8 p.m. The event will feature fine art, holiday items, refreshments, live music and more.

Garden of Lights

After the sun goes down in December, the San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas is transformed into a dazzling winter wonderland. More than 125,000 sparkling lights illuminate the flora of this fantastic 37-acre urban oasis each evening from 5 – 9 p.m. for a magical holiday experience. Garden of Lights also feaures great music, food, visits with Santa and more.

Garden of Lights runs Dec. 2-23 and Dec. 26-30.

North Coast Singers Youth Chorus concert

The San Diego North Coast Singers Youth Chorus 25th annual winter concert, Catch a Falling Star, will take place Saturday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m. at San Dieguito United Methodist Church (170 Calle Magdalena, Encinitas). Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for students, and can be purchased at the door.

This concert promises plenty of musical variety and is the perfect way for the entire family to start the holiday season. The performance includes all four youth choruses with singers aged 8 to 18. See! It’s Scrambled Christmas ABC!’

In a heavenly school little angels are learning their ABCs. Teacher Marianna wants them to memorize the alphabet by words starting with individual letters. She tries to come up with a theme for those words. Maybe a food group will do. No! Angels consider it boring. Finally they settle on a Christmas story words to help them memorize the alphabet. At the same time they want to tell the Christmas story, but it did not happen in alphabetical order. They have to scramble letters to tell the story in the correct order. Come and help them to do so!

The mini-musical “See! It’s Scrambled Christmas ABC!” will be performed Sunday, Dec. 3, from 2-3 p.m. at Parish Social Center of St. Therese of Carmel, 4355 Del Mar Trails, San Diego 92130.

The performance will feature children, youth and adults of St. Therese of Carmel Parish and Notre Dame Academy students.

‘Monet in Giverny’art lecture in Del Mar

San Diego Museum of Art, North County Chapter, will present an art lecture titled “Monet in Giverny” on Monday, Dec. 4.

Speaker Ariel Plotek, associate curator, San Diego Museum of Art, will highlight the 1904 work of Monet titled “Le Bassin de Nympheas” on special loan from the Denver Museum of Art. She will also discuss other works of Monet during his time in Giverny and his desire to portray the changing qualities of color and light in nature.

Friends of Jung free workshop: ‘Healing Our Losses’

Speaker Dr. Jack Miller, Ph.D. will discuss “Healing Our Losses” at the Del Mar Friends of Jung free workshop Saturday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at The Winston School, 215 9th St., Del Mar 92014. The workshop is in honor of Jungian analyst Katie Sanford.

Participants will share their losses through a particular form of meditation and learn about creative visualization and dream interpretation. Participants will view a film of Miller’s work and are invited to participate in The Phoenix Project.

Miller is the author of “Healing Our Losses,” which enables people to resolve their grief. He also founded the Center for Education on Death and Dying,Inc.　

LIFE film: ‘The Secret in Their Eyes’

LIFE San Elijo presents a free screening of the Argentinian film “The Secret in Their Eyes” on Dec. 1 from 1 to 3 p.m. on the San Elijo Campus of MiraCosta College, 3333 Manchester Avenue, in room 201.

The movie follows a retired legal counselor in Argentina who writes a novel hoping to find closure for one of his past unresolved homicide cases and for his unreciprocated love with his superior-both of which still haunt him decades later.
