Bootcamp benefits Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

Torrey Pines High School senior Sophia LeRose got the community moving with her Sweat for a Cure event on Feb. 3. Over 100 participants came out for the bootcamp benefit for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

“It was an amazing experience to see so many people come out and support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and my efforts to raise money for such a wonderful cause,” said Sophia.

Participants spread out on the field at Torrey Pines on the sunny Saturday afternoon, following instructors Cindy Whitmarsh, Kathy Babcock and Lisa Stettner leading the challenging class from a stage. Several Del Mar Junior Lifeguard instructors came out for the workout and to support Sophia.

“Such a great event,” said Del Mar Junior Lifeguard Director Turtle Rudolph. “Staying fit, having fun and helping others is what we do.”

The event featured the bootcamp class as well as opportunity drawings from supporting vendors Lorna Jane, Cymo Foundation, Jamba Juice, Mia Brazilia, Crunch and CycleBar.

Sophia is a candidate for the Student of the Year, a fundraising competition for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The winner will be announced on Feb. 24.

Her next event is a benefit ride at the new CycleBar in Carmel Country Plaza on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 4 p.m. The class is $25 and all proceeds will go to LLS. Register at bit.ly/CGLLS211.
