It doesn’t take an investigative reporter to dig up the basic facts about the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”

Their origin story involves being exposed to transformative ooze as baby turtles. They were raised and trained in martial arts by their Master Splinter, a mutant rat.

Leonardo leads. Donatello does machines. Raphael is cool (but rude). Michelangelo is a party dude. Created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, they have been a pop culture staple since the 1980s.

But April O’Neil will be the first to tell you there is more to these heroes than that.

Taking a page out of April’s reporter’s notebook, we want to know what makes a Leonardo a Leonardo and a Raphael a Raphael.

With new film “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” now in theaters, we watched as many on-screen depictions of the heroes in a half shell as mutantly possible (for journalism!) to get to the truth about each Turtle. With fact-finding skills honed by years of experience as real newspaper journalists — along with what we remember from science class — we have developed a series of interview questions that will help us definitively determine which member of the team you are most like.
